JAM Alumna Spotlight: Cassandra Joy Debuts with "Keep Her In" 🗝️🖤
I love watching our students step into their own artistry and sometimes that happens on a much bigger stage than in the studio. JAM alumna Cassandra Joy has just released her debut single, "Keep Her In," and we couldn't be prouder!
A song about the parts we hide
"Keep Her In" is a dark pop track that gets personal. Cassandra describes it as coming from the parts of herself she's tried to quiet, hide, and keep under control. The song introduces an inner child who refuses to stay buried: eerie, emotional and ready to play.
Giving those parts a voice wasn't easy. Cassandra says it felt vulnerable but also a little freeing. That tension comes through in the music and it's what makes the song worth a listen.
From the JAM studio to her debut
From my first session with Cassie, I recognized her drive to use her music as a vehicle for connection with her audience. She came into the voice studio ready and open to exploring new techniques that would bring her closer to finding her own vocal identify that encompasses both complex emotions and visceral expression of them. Cassie is equal parts sweetheart and rocker which I think is the perfect combination that shows through in her artistic style!
Cassandra's message on release day was a thank you to "everyone who believed in me while I was still learning to believe in myself." That belief in each other is what we hope every JAM student feels and it's wonderful to see it come full circle.
